Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB or VRB) is a type of flow battery that utilizes the different chemical potential energies of vanadium ions in different oxidation states to store energy. Compared to lithium-ion battery, VRFB has advantages such as long cycle life, high safety, and zero attenuation of capacity. With the development of wind power and photovoltaic, the demand for safety and duration of energy storage is constantly increasing, and the demand for VRFB will be booming.

However, the competition among energy storage enterprises become more and more intense. The winning bid of lithium-ion battery energy storage system in 2023 in China ranges from 1.1 to 1.3 RMB/Wh. The initial investment cost of VRFB is facing pressure, and reducing costs has become an essential way for the development of VRFB. The cost of vanadium electrolyte accounts for the highest proportion and increases with the increase of energy storage time, accounting for 40% to 80%, while others parts such as the stack and system account for 20% to 60%.
